Edgewood ISD’s top graduates will have a little extra help when they begin their college careers, thanks to a generous new scholarship established by EISD Superintendent Dr. Eduardo Hernandez.
“It is one thing to help our students get to college it’s a second thing to help them get out, on the other side,” says Hernandez.
The Dr. Eduardo Hernadez Complete the Dream Scholarship is funded by an annual donation from Dr. Hernandez. The hope is that the recipients will be able to use it for life expenses while pursuing higher education.
“I remember going to college. I didn’t know you needed sheets; I didn’t know you needed a hamper; I didn’t know a lot. I was a benefactor of a lot of kindness when I was in college,” says Dr. Hernandez. “It was a huge amount of compassion that had an impact on me.”
The first recipients of the Complete the Dream Scholarship will be from the Class of 2025. Several members of the Board of Trustees commended Dr. Hernandez for his donation and dedication.
“We’d like to thank you for your generosity for our children,” said Trustee Richard Santoyo. “You didn’t have to {create this scholarship}, it’s never been done before, we want to say thank you.”
Trustee Michael Valdez echoed the sentiment, adding “I think it’s really important to stress that this is not in your contract, that this by your own generosity. Thank you.”
Dr. Hernandez will share more details of the Complete the Dream Scholarship during future meetings of the EISD Board of Trustees.
